About the Author
Stefanie Donnelly is new to the writing world, having been in education for the last 20 years, she knows about children and nourishing them with empathy, knowledge and empowering them with respect, support and listening ears. Stefanie’s career and entire being shifted when she accepted a position as an international inclusion specialist, where she realized the value of children understanding worlds and cultures different than their own. Having lived and taught in multiple countries she’s seen firsthand the power of travel and the learnings that take place in new and sometimes uncomfortable places are far more powerful than anything ever learned in a classroom - she aims to bring that to life through her stories.
Stefanie grew up deep in a rainforest, while train rides, tandem bikes and plaza cafe sitting are home to her now, she feels forever connected to moss, wildflowers and mountain paths. She loves that traveling continues to stretch the brains and hearts of people no matter their age and that humanity is cultivated when we really see each other. Her favorite travel moments are always those that include laughter and no common language - if there isn’t anything that can be said, just smile and share joy together. Stefanie’s stories remind us that the world is wide, beautiful and full of possibility - and small generous acts can change someone’s day.
Stefanie has a degree in Humanities from Seattle University and a Master’s in Education (Severe Disabilities Special Education) from University of Washington. She leads teacher teams, develops special education programs, consults with international schools, mentors new teachers and is an expert at modifying and accommodating lessons to make them accessible and equitable for individualized learning. Stefanie has taken on many different roles within education, but loves being creative with others and showing students how much they are capable of the most of all. She currently lives and works in Zagreb, Croatia with her family.
